DESCRIPTION

Dahlia 'Hillcrest Suffusion' is a ball dahlia with flowers in soft shades of pink and peach. The flowers are 10 to 15 cm in diameter and grow on stems of 120 cm, which makes them very suitable as a cut flower. This dahlia is a versatile choice that provides a sophisticated and colorful addition to both borders and bouquets.

PLANT INSTRUCTIONS

Planting dahlias is easy and rewards you with a colorful flower garden. Follow these steps for the best results:

1. Location and ground
Dahlias love the sun, so choose a spot with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Provide well-drained, fertile soil and enrich it with compost or manure.

2. When to plant?
Plant the tubers after the last frost, usually in April or May, when the soil is warm enough.

3. Planting tubers
Dig a hole 10-15 cm deep and place the tuber horizontally with the 'eyes' facing upwards. Keep 30-50 cm distance between the tubers, depending on the size of the plant. Cover with soil, press lightly and give a little water.

4. Care during growth
Keep the soil slightly moist, especially during dry periods. Give a low-nitrogen fertilizer every 4-6 weeks for optimal flowering. Tall dahlias can be supported with a plant stake to prevent breaking.

5. Remove blooms and dead flowers
Remove faded flowers regularly (deadheading) to prolong flowering. The more flowers you pick, the more new ones will appear.

6. Overwintering
After the first frost, cut the foliage to 10 cm above the tuber and dig it up. Let the tubers dry and store them in a cool, dry place until the following spring.

How and when do I plant dahlias?

Plant dahlias in the spring, as soon as the risk of frost has passed, usually from mid-April to the end of May . Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Plant the tubers about 5 cm deep with the eyes facing upwards and keep a distance of 30-50 cm between the tubers. Water immediately after planting and continue to water regularly, especially during dry periods. This way you can enjoy beautiful flowers in the summer!

How much water do dahlias need?

Dahlias need regular watering, especially during hot and dry periods. Give them a good amount of water about 2-3 times a week , so that the soil remains moist but not soggy. Make sure you water at the roots and not on the leaves, to prevent mold. During rainy weeks, extra watering is not necessary.

Can dahlias be planted in pots?

Yes, dahlias can be planted in pots! Choose a pot that is at least 30 cm deep and ensure good drainage by placing a layer of hydro grains or gravel at the bottom. Use airy, nutritious potting soil and plant the tuber about 5 cm deep with the eyes facing upwards. Place the pot in a sunny spot and water regularly so that the soil remains slightly moist. Don't forget to fertilize occasionally during the growing season for an exuberant bloom!

How do I overwinter my dahlias?

Dahlias are not winter hardy, but you can easily overwinter the tubers. Follow these steps:

  1. Digging out tubers: Dig out the tubers after the first night frost. Cut the stems to about 10 cm above the tuber.
  2. Cleaning: Remove excess soil and allow the tubers to dry thoroughly in a cool, dry place.
